Strengthening Infrastructure Resilience to Extreme Events - From North America to Developing Nations -
ARX Institute
The American Institute for Resilient Infrastructure and Extreme Events (ARX Institute) is a multidisciplinary, independent center committed to advancing resilience in the face of extreme natural events. We support the development of science-based strategies and innovative technologies to assess, strengthen, and adapt critical infrastructure systems.
With a strategic base in the Washington D.C. region, the ARX Institute fosters collaboration among federal agencies, private entities, and academic institutions. Our mission spans North America and developing countries, addressing the urgent need for infrastructure resilience in diverse contexts.
We are driven by a dual purpose: to promote research and innovation in the United States, and to empower vulnerable communities abroad through knowledge transfer, disaster risk education, and technical support.
We specialize in the resilience of critical transportation and civil infrastructure, including airports, railways, ports, pipelines, buildings, and other essential systems. Our work focuses on assessing vulnerabilities, enhancing performance under extreme events, and supporting long-term adaptation strategies.
